21

Artist: Adele
Album: 21
Tracks: 10
Released: 2011

Adele, British singer famous for her hit "Chasing Pavements", returns for her second studio album, 21. "Rolling in the Deep" contains strong emotions, jazzy and bluesy instrumentals, and flows smoothly. "Rumour Has It" combines clever rhymes with the rawness of Adele's vocals, including a surprising musical arrangement during the bridge. Simple elements all come together to create a feel good song that leaves you in the loop. "Turning Tables" is a more somber tribute to a love gone wrong, accompanied by a beautiful piano track. "Don't You Remember" reflects on a geniune sorrow that seems to have haunted the artist in writing this track. It's a soulful recolection of both good and bad times, alongside yet another great piano instrumental. "Set Fire to the Rain" speaks about identity and displays that Adele's genres can range from blues to R&B. While many other tracks wouldn't be out of place in a comfortable side street pub, this track proves that the artist has what it takes to appeal to a wide range of listeners. "He Won't Go" sets the scene with a subtle beat and harp accompaniment, and Adele takes the stage with her stunning vocals. "Take It All" puts a bluesy spin on the typical breakup song. Adele is a master at portraying emotion in her songs, and this track is no different. "One and Only" actually portrays a musical setting almost akin to country rock. Adele's amazing vocals immensely compliment the interesting instrumental combinations. "Lovesong" a cover of The Cure's track creates a smooth, percussion heavy feeling. A refreshing cover, Adele adds some of her own contributions while still doing justice to the track. "Someone Like You" is a strong closing track about remembrance and Adele will indeed stay fresh in your mind.

Her sophmore album, 21 carries themes of growth and change in relationships. Though many of the songs have similar stories, none ever seem over used or get old. Adele's presence isn't very prominent in America, but she truly is a hidden jewel.
